Advanced Mathematical Thinking in the context of Higher Secondary Education

This article considers the role of Advanced Mathematical Thinking (APM) and the importance of some
mathematical software that is decisive in the development of teaching and learning mathematics. In this
sense, students of Educación Media Superior (EMS) have as a background the study of mathematics to
enter Higher Education; therefore, there is a need to use mental structures generated by the combination
of process and concept to qualitatively arrive at another type of mathematical thinking, what Tall (2002)
calls procept. The definition and characteristics of Advanced Mathematical Thinking are also considered;
as well as some of the investigations that have been developed around it; finally, the implications of the
use of mathematical software in the learning of mathematics by students are analyzed.
